About
Our project is about memory and how we perceive past events differently as to how they actually happened. Sontag in 'Against Interpretation' mentions that Art can be interpreted in multiple ways. Our project focuses on how people personally interprate memories. Memories are often emotionally fuelled which lead to events being perceived as being over exaggerated and surreal. We intend to investigate these ideas in our movie Research: We read through sontags 'Against Interpretation'. We picked up on her ideas of interpreting art and we applied that to memory. We took inspiration from the television show "Mr Robot" borrowing the idea of false perception and memory. Other inspirations were the movies "Memento" and "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind". Questions Are memories emotionally driven? How reliable is memory? Do people access memories in the same way? What triggers memories? Why do we interprate memories the way we do? Our Script and Music
Script:
"And like that I was on the beach, the waves crushing against the sand, the air cold and bitter. Nothing else mattered besides the words he uttered to me. What stood out to me was his appearance. Most of what he was saying lacked substance so it wasn't very appealing to me. In retrospect all of his words might as well of been in a different language because none of it mattered to me. It was easy to pick up on the way his fingers twitched, the blue and black oversized jumper he was wearing and the black bomber jacket. Stained vans and blue jeans. The music that played on the speaker and the cues of the song that corresponded with certain moments of what he said. The day as a whole was average, as average as something can possibly be. The sky while not completely overcast was filled with clouds, and it wasn't too cold or overly warm. All it was, was 5 words but I scutinized over it for hours. Even after it left. 5 words." Our movie also has an original soundtrack created by Eoghan. Below is one of the first edits of our full video. We've included this here to show our progress. |
